Baška Voda is located about ten miles northwest of Makarska. This place is famous for its long pebble beaches and crystal clear water. In Baška Voda is the baroque church of St. Lovre (built in 1750), fitting a number of medieval grave stones and the parish church of St. Nicholas, built in 1889.

It originated from a village Makra which was already mentioned in 553 – the present name Makarska wears since 16th Century. The Malacological Museum of the Franciscan monastery in Makarska, with its attractive collection of marine snails and shellfish, belongs to the largest collection of this species.
